This week the weather has been so incredibly beautiful, I have the worst case of spring fever. All I want to do is run around in shorts, light sweaters, flowy skirts, and day heels. Temperatures have been in the 50's for days now, and I cannot express in words the difference it has made in my mood and the moods of everyone around me.

Anyone who lives in the midwest can tell you, you don't truly appreciate warm weather until you've dealt with our winters. Midwesters know how to treasure a nice day. On Sunday, my boyfriend and I went to get brunch at a cafe that is normally pretty slow, and it was completely packed with the happiest crowd I've seen in months.

Aside from gorgeous weather and an altogether happier population, spring brings one of the most cheerful holidays: Easter! We've been getting new girls Easter dresses in daily, so many that we can hardly keep up, which is why I seriously recommend checking them out. Swimwear Season: Yes, Please

It is -9 degrees outside in Omaha today, and needless to say I am less than thrilled. I realize it's only February, and I realize that the ozone has more holes in it these days than jeans did in the 90's, but I don't care, I want a stable climate and I want it remain stable above zero, is that really so much to ask?

What I really want is a beach where I can sit under an umbrella, slathered in sunblock (my ancestors lived in Denmark and we don't do tan), and spend the whole day reading a mix of snobby literature and French Vogue from behind an oversized pair of cat-eye sunnies.

What's not helping me push this daydream aside and get back to work is the fact that my work involves seeing all the incredibly cute baby girl swimwear we've been getting at Sophias! If your family is lucky enough to be taking a vacation to somewhere tropical, you've simply got to browse through our girls swimsuits and help your little girl pick one (or two, or three) out, there are so many cute styles. If you don't watch the pageant each year, than you may not have heard, but this year Miss Nebraska Teresa Scanlan was crowned Miss America! That's very exciting, Sophias Style is located in Omaha, NE, and we're so excited to have such a smart and talented girl representing our home state, and thrilled that she's won the Miss America title for 2011.

One of our shoppers emailed us this adorable photo of her little girl meeting Miss Nebraska! She happened to be wearing a dress her mother bought at Sophias Style (not for the purpose of promoting our company, she just sent us the photo because she knew we'd be happy to see it), and she looks so pretty in it, they both look absolutely beautiful.

 I know it's still December, and we haven't even made it to Christmas yet, but I can't help but get excited about spring and summer already! I love fall- the weather as well as the fashion, and I like winter because of the holidays and the fashion (I tolerate the weather only because I must), but as soon as New Years is over, I'm set for spring. I survive January only by curling up with books and ignoring the world until the weather starts to behave reasonably again.

So, you can imagine my excitement when our shipping manager emailed me that our girls swimwear is here. We have so many cute new suits, remember when choosing a swimsuit was only about finding a color or pattern you liked? I miss those days, kids have no idea how easy they've got it. Grown-ups have to worry about flattering cuts and styles, choosing patterns that accentuate the right things, etc.

I definitely recommend giving it a read- if nothing else, it'll be good motivation to keep hitting the gym this winter. January is so cold and sad, I can't wait for it to be over. I know a lot of people aren't crazy about Valentine's Day because it's not as much fun if you're single (whatever, there's no law saying you can't buy yourself chocolates), but I'm glad there's at least one holiday between Christmas and Easter. We need something to look forward to! And why shouldn't love be celebrated with it's own holiday? There are all kinds of love that have nothing to do with romance; I love my family, my friends, my cat, my shoe collection, and my future niece- who only exists in hopeful theory at this point.

You know you want one (I've tried one on, they'll fit an adult so long as you don't have an exceptionally big head or tons of hair), but you should really buy it for your little girl. Probably she'll pull it off better anyways, kids can get away with anything.

We've officially made it to 2011, did everyone have a fun New Years? I went to Denver and stayed with some friends for the weekend. They have two adorable boys, a 4 year old and a 2 year old, and they were so funny and happy- I don't think I've ever met happier children in my entire life.

Now that January has arrived, it's time to start checking out all the awesome winter sales! Happy Friday! It's the first weekend of December, which means we're down to the final three weeks before Christmas! Does everyone have their holiday plans ready? I'm going to go stay at my parents' house on Christmas Eve, then we're driving out to my grandmother's house on Christmas for a family gathering. Strangely, I'm only half looking forward to it because I'm worried about leaving my kitten home alone for over 24 hours straight. I think he'll be lonely, and I suspect I'm turning into a crazy cat lady.

But on to more important topics, like Christmas shopping. Have you finished yours? I still need to get my mother's present, but I already know what's it's going to be. I can't tell you now, because this is the internet and it's the least private place in the world. The Perfect Winter Sale Storm

Deep down inside, I always think I would be a little sad if I won the lottery. Money comes with so many benefits; I would love the travel, love being able to give the people I care about everything they need.. but at the same time, I think it would kill the joy of shopping for me. Bargain hunting is so much fun! The challenge is so exciting. For example: I have been in semi-desperate need of a new winter coat. The one I've been wearing has a lovely design, but it's beginning to look hopelessly ragged. Even my dry cleaners have given up on it.

However, it's Christmas, and I don't have tons of spare cash to be spending on myself at the moment. I would put a coat on my wishlist, but to be honest, coats are something I simply have to find for myself- the style, fit and color all need to be perfect.

So, I've been browsing all my favorite women's clothing sites, and I finally came across The One. It's beautiful: the perfect neutral shade of camel, bracelet-length sleeves, funnel collar, and a swing hem- very 20's, which is my absolute favorite fashion era. The only problem was the price! The coat is gorgeous, and judging by the quality of everything else I've bought from that company, it's probably worth every penny they're asking. Nevertheless, Christmas gifts for others are priority number one in December. I decided to cross my fingers that it didn't sell out, and hope for the perfect winter sale storm to hit. And it actually did! They marked the price down by 40%, and then offered an additional 25% discount on all sale items. I bought it immediately, and it was just in the knick of time, because the coat completely sold out the very next day.


As much as I loved the coat before, I love it even more now that I got it at such a killer price. If I had an unlimited clothing budget, I'd have just bought it right away. Sure, I'd still adore it, but there's no way I'd be able to appreciate it the way I do now.
